Lumbermen had to split a lot of wood to keep their stoves burning. The season at a logging camp spanned November to March, the coldest months of the year.
By the 1890s, lumber camps often had two stoves. One sat in the kitchen end of the building for cooking. The other warmed the opposite side of the building near the door.
