Document Box

Joshua Norwood trained as a saddler and trunk-maker's apprentice under John Williams in Bangor Maine. Norwood later opened his own shop, in which he made this box. John Williams was one of Bangor's leading mechanics (master craftsmen). He taught his trade to a number of young men who lived and worked with him in the 1830s and 1840s.
