In 2011, Governor Paul LePage ordered the removal of the Maine Labor Mural from its location in the Department of Labor's reception room. It remained off public view in an undisclosed location for over a year. Its removal ignited public outcry. In 2013, it was placed on loan to the Maine State Museum where it was installed in the atrium of the Maine Cultural Building. In 2019, the Maine Department of Labor transferred the Maine Labor Mural to the Maine State Museum.
